She is an author who donned multiple roles in her life – fashion designer, entrepreneur, restaurateur, social worker, agony aunt, visionary, socialite and other labels. Bina Ramani recently launched her new autobiography ‘Bird in a Banyan Tree: My Story’ .People know her as the stubbornly honest witness who was taken into police custody and sent to Tihar Jail, was vilified by the media, and lauded by the country for her heroic role in the Jessica Lal murder case. But she is much more. Coming from a conservative and illustrious Sikh family that moved to Bombay from Pakistan after the tumultuous partition of India in 1947 what followed was a bitter divorce, a quest to reunite with her daughters against her ex-husband’s wishes and of course the Pandora’s Box that set itself open with her involvement with the murder of Jessicca Lal as an honest witness against the people with strong political backing. All this and a lot more has led her to be the epitome of strength.
